Job Description
As a keen writer with a good eye for detail, you will report on climate and energy policies, helping to improve understanding of these complex issues in the context of climate change. This could include explaining what’s in the news, unpacking new developments, or providing important technical or political context.
Carbon Brief’s award-winning team of journalists, analysts and data visualisers produce engaging and data-driven articles to help explain the evidence base on climate change. Our content is used and respected by researchers, journalists, policymakers, campaigners and scientists worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Write features, analysis, factchecks and explainers.
- Develop graphics, video and other media on relevant topics.
- Plan and develop Carbon Brief’s energy and climate policy coverage with the team.
- Build up and maintain a network of contacts.
- Engage on social media on behalf of the organisation.
- Identify and attend relevant conferences and events on behalf of Carbon Brief.
- Interview key players in energy and climate policy.
- Summarise climate and energy media coverage for Carbon Brief’s daily newsletter.
Qualifications – Essential
- At least two years’ journalistic experience.
- Familiarity with the issues and debates surrounding energy and climate policy.
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to write to a deadline.
- The ability to quickly absorb new and complex information.
- Enthusiasm for situating reporting within the context of climate change.
- A degree or postgraduate qualification.
Qualifications – Desirable
- Knowledge of international climate negotiations.
- Experience with data analysis.
- A network of contacts in the energy and climate space.
- Language skills – particularly French, Spanish, German or Mandarin.
- Experience of producing multimedia content.
- Excellent social media skills.
Location: The role is based at our offices in central London. You may be expected to undertake some international travel as part of your work.
Reporting to: The director.
Hours/Duration: This is a permanent full-time contract, subject to a six-month review period.
Salary: £33,000.
